WSR Youth Softball programming

The purpose of the WSR Youth Softball program is to provide a fun, instructional and recreational league for girls currently in 1st through 7th grades that live within or are enrolled in the Waverly - Shell Rock school district. The program provides a structured softball experience that focuses on learning the fundamentals of the game and sportsmanship.

Go-Hawk Softball League 2026

Practice and games schedules will be decided once registration is completed and participation levels are understood to provide the best learning and development opportunities for our athletes. Parent coaches will assist with practices and coach the games. 

Beginning in 3rd grade, Teams will join the Cedar Valley League. Away games are typically scheduled 1x per week.

Important dates:

Feb 1st - Registration opens

Mid-Feb - Registration closes

Mid-March - Rosters will be created & coaches meeting will be scheduled 

Mid-April - Practices start (weather-permitting) 

First week of May - Let the games begin! 

Last week of June - Final league games

Recreational Level Youth Softball

Go-Hawk Recreational Level Youth softball is a fun way to get your child involved in softball. This program provides an opportunity to participate in a traditional recreational league for kids currently in 1st through 6th grades focused on learning the fundamentals of the game of baseball and sportsmanship. Volunteer-parent coaches teach the players softball rules, skills, and techniques through practice. 1

1st & 2nd grade Players will participate in inter-league games, which will enhance their competitive spirit while focusing on age-appropriate instruction and teamwork. A typical week during the season will include one game and one practice in Waverly or Shell Rock. Additional practices can be added by the coaches if there is availability on the fields.

New teams will be assigned each year with a primary goal of producing balanced teams.

 3rd - 6th grade players will focus on learning the fundamentals of the game with the opportunity to compete in the Cedar Valley League. Volunteer-parent coaches the players the rules, skills and techniques through practice and games which will enhance their competitive spirit while focusing on instruction and teamwork. Practice will be twice a week prior to the season and once a week during game season. During the season players will participate in league games twice a week (typically Monday and Wednesday nights) against teams throughout the Cedar Valley area. Out-of-town regional travel during the week is required to participate in the Cedar Valley League.

Players are responsible for gloves, helmets and softball pants. Cleats are helpful but not required. No metal cleats. There are a few bats available in the storage shed for use if needed. League owned equipment is to be left in the storage shed when not in use. This includes catchers' equipment, balls and any bats that are used.
