Recreational Level Youth Baseball

Go-Hawk Recreational Level Youth Baseball is a fun way to get your child involved in baseball. This program provides an opportunity to participate in a traditional recreational league for kids currently in 1st through 6th grades focused on learning the fundamentals of the game of baseball and sportsmanship. Volunteer-parent coaches teach the players baseball rules, skills, and techniques through practice. Players will participate in inter-league games, which will enhance their competitive spirit while focusing on age-appropriate instruction and teamwork. A typical week during the season will include one game and one practice in Waverly or Shell Rock.  Additional practices can be added by the coaches if there is availability on the fields.

  • New teams will be assigned each year with a primary goal of producing balanced teams.
  • The league provides each player a jersey and hat.  Players are responsible for gloves, helmets and gray baseball pants.  Cleats are helpful but not required.  No metal cleats.
  • All youth bats must be USSSA or USABat certified.  There are a few bats available in the storage shed for use if needed.  League owned equipment is to be left in the storage shed when not in use.  This includes catchers' equipment, balls and any bats that are used.

Recreational Plus Level Youth Baseball

The Go-Hawk Recreational PLUS level programming focuses on learning the fundamentals of the game with the opportunity to compete in the Cedar Valley League. Ages consist of 3rd through 7th grade.  Volunteer-parent coaches teach the players baseball rules, skills, and techniques through practices and games which will enhance their competitive spirit while focusing on instruction and teamwork. Practices will be twice a week prior to the season and once a week during the season.  Additional practices can be added by the coaches if there is availability on the fields.  During the season players will participate in league games twice a week (Typically on Tuesday and Thursday nights) against teams throughout the Cedar Valley area during the week.  Out-of-town regional travel during the week is required to participate in the Rec+ Level program.  Travel could be up to an hour from the Waverly - Shell Rock area.  The 7th grade Rec+ teams may also play in a couple of tournaments as the number of games are limited for this group due to not being able to play in the Cedar Valley League.  There can/will be multiple teams but best attempts will be made to have rosters limited to around a maximum of 12 athletes.  This ensures adequate playing time for each athlete and is easier to manage from a coaching perspective.  Grades 3 - 6 registration fees do not include tournaments.  If coaches want to take a team to a tournament, that is managed outside of the club.

  • All Rec+ Level players in grades 3 - 6 are also eligible to play at the Rec Level as well for no additional cost. If you would like to play both levels, just email financials@wsrbbsb.com and we will add the player to the Rec Level league.
  • Due to having to travel for games, an equipment bag with catchers gear, game balls, a scorebook and a bucket of balls will be provided to each team at the beginning of the season.  All equipment is expected to be returned to the club at the end of the season.

Competitive Level Youth Baseball

The purpose of the Go-Hawk Youth Competitive level programming is to provide opportunities for higher-level competition while emphasizing fun and growth through instruction. Teams will be assigned based base on tryouts held each summer after the season. All teams are required to compete as AA level USSSA teams or higher.  The program focuses on learning the fundamentals of the game of baseball with 1-2 practices per week during pre-season and the regular season. Practices typically start in early February and the season continues through the USSSA state tournament in July.  Volunteer-parent coaches teach the players baseball rules, skills, and techniques through practice. Players will participate in league games, plus local double headers and weekend tournaments which will enhance their competitive spirit while focusing on instruction and teamwork.
